A woman who supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine, had an interest in Russian Wagner mercenaries, and who was a follower of Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov has been detained by Ukraine’s SBU security service in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine.

The SBU’s press service reported on Facebook on March 24 that the 63-year-old resident of the oblast center, a doctor by profession, had posted pro-Russian propaganda on the banned Russian social network Odnoklassniki.

In her publications, the woman described the Russian war of aggression as “liberation”, and Ukraine and its Western partners were accused of “military actions against the civilian population” – common Kremlin propaganda tropes.

She also described the killing of Ukrainian defenders by Russians and Kadyrov’s promise to “burn the devils” to be “cool.”

While being searched, the suspect attempted to destroy her phone which contained a considerable amount of anti-Ukrainian content and symbols associated with the aggressor country.

The woman has been detained and charged under Part 3 of Art. 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which includes justifying or denying the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine and glorifying its participants, carrying a penalty of five to eight years imprisonment, with or without property confiscation.
