Sweden is working towards supplying Ukraine with Archer self-propelled howitzers, PM Ulf Kristersson told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet on Jan. 8.
According to Kristersson, Archers weren’t dispatched to Ukraine in 2022 because they were not at the top of Kyiv’s wish list at the time.
“I was saying this whole time, that we are strong enough to make a contribution with such an advanced weapon system,” said Kristersson.
“This work is ongoing, and I will be back as soon as we finish it.”
He added that supplying Archers remains the top priority for Swedish assistance to Ukraine.
On Aug. 31, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde announced that Sweden would consider sending Archer artillery systems and RBS70 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine.
