The results of negotiations with U.S. President Joe Biden during his unannounced visit to Kyiv will have an impact on the battlefield, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference on Feb. 20.

"Negotiations today were very fruitful, very important and very crucial," Zelenskyy stated.

The Ukrainian president also expressed the hope that the current year would become a year of victory for Ukraine. While acknowledging that Ukraine would face a challenging period, Zelenskyy remained confident that the country would achieve historic accomplishments with the support of the United States and other allies.

U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in Kyiv on Feb. 20 on an unannounced visit, for the first time since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.

Officially, he is expected to be in Poland for a three-day visit ahead of the Feb. 24 anniversary of the full-scale Russian war against Ukraine.

Following the meeting with President Zelenskyy, Biden announced a $500 million in additional assistance to Ukraine. In particular, the package will include more military equipment, including artillery ammunition, Javelin anti-tank missiles, and howitzers.

Biden also announced new sanctions against Russia for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking at the press conference, he said Ukraine had succeeded in the war and would continue to win.
