About 30% of the territory of Ukraine needs demining, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on its website on Dec. 10.

“Currently, the police have taken stabilization measures in 568 liberated settlements,” the Ministry reported.

“Units of the State Emergency Service (DSNS) examined and cleared 76 hectares of territory, and seized more than 300,000 explosive devices. About 30% of the country’s territory still needs demining.”

Specifically, the ministry clarified, about 270,000 square kilometers must be demined in Ukraine, including in currently occupied territories.

Due to the full-scale Russia’s invasion into Ukraine and the conduct of active warfare in Ukraine, huge swathes of Ukrainian territory are contaminated by active mines. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Emergency Service have speculated that the complete demining of Ukraine, following the end of the full-scale war, may take up to ten years.
