Three Donetsk men captured in battles for Sumy Oblast sentenced to 15 years in prison

A Ukrainian court has sentenced three fighters from the “Donetsk People’s Republic,” captured in late March in battles for Sumy Oblast, to 15 years in prison, Ukraine’s SBU security service tweeted on Aug. 10.
The “Donetsk People’s Republic” is a sham statelet set up by Moscow in the part of Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast that Russia has occupied since 2014.
All three convicts turned out to be fighters of the so-called “4th separate motorized rifle battalion of the 119th regiment” of the pro-Kremlin sham republic.
The perpetrators, who did not have any military background, voluntarily joined the Russian invasion force at the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion on Feb. 24.
Following training on the territory of Russia’s Belgorod Oblast, the fighters were sent to seize Ukrainian territories, but they failed.
The court found them guilty under Part 2 of Art. 260 (creation of armed formations not provided for by law or participation in their activities) and part 2of Art. 111 (treason committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
