Trump declares Türkiye NATO summit a success, vows to return

U.S. President Donald Trump believes that the NATO summit in Türkiye was successful and will not be his last, noting that the alliance has changed significantly, he told reporters aboard Air Force One.
When asked about whether the summit in Türk iye would be his last, Trump said no.
“No. Uh, I think they came a long way today. They made some concessions and I think NATO came a long way today,” the U.S. president said.
Trump added the U.S. should no longer bear its current financial burden within NATO, noting that while he achieved funding reforms during his first term, the situation reversed under Joe Biden.
The U.S. president stressed that NATO was founded to counter the Soviet Union, but the alliance now views Russia as its primary threat.
“We’re really there for protecting them, not for protecting us. [NATO] was ultimately protection against the Soviet Union, now Russia, but it was against the Soviet Union” Trump said.
“And you know, honestly, we’re very far away. We have an ocean separating us. We’ll see.”
He added that the current summit helped resolve a number of important issues, describing the meeting as "very good".
Bloomberg earlier reported that NATO was considering forgoing next year’s annual summit in order to reduce tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump.
