The presidents of Ukraine and Turkey spoke by phone about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and Russia’s sham referendums in theoccupied territories, the Turkish President’s office said on Twitter on Sept. 28.
The leaders also discussed the successful exchange of war prisoners between Russia and Ukraine.
“Drawing attention to the successful functioning of the agreement on Ukrainian grain’s shipment through the Black Sea, President Erdogan stressed that a similar approach can be taken as regards the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as well, and reiterated Turkey’s offer to act as a mediator and facilitator for the formation of a demilitarized zone around the power plant,” the press service tweeted.
The presidents also discussed sham referendums in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine.
“Holding unilateral referendums in Ukrainian regions that are under Russian control will undermine efforts aimed at reviving the diplomatic process, the President stressed, adding that Turkey stands ready to provide every kind of support for the settlement of the war through peaceful negotiations,” Erdogan’s administration stated.
