Passenger bus rolls into a crowd of Ukrainians in Bulgaria, leaving two dead

A bus suddenly began to roll backward and drove into a group of Ukrainians standing behind it near the Bulgarian-Turkish border, killing two and injuring 16 others, Novinite reported on April 22.
The accident occurred on the Burgas–Malko Tarnovo highway near the checkpoint to Turkiye.
The bus, carrying 37 passengers and two drivers — all Ukrainian citizens — stopped due to a lack of fuel, according to preliminary data.
The vehicle suddenly started moving backward after the people exited the cabin and gathered behind it. The bus crashed into the group of people, then went into a ditch and overturned, according to law enforcement information.
Two passengers died as a result, and 16 more people, including children, sustained injuries, with some of them in severe condition. Medics transported six victims to hospitals in Burgas and another ten to the emergency center in Malko Tarnovo.
The bus was heading to Turkiye as part of a trip involving Ukrainian citizens, including some refugees living in Burgas, local authorities reported.
Malko Tarnovo law enforcement officers detained the driver of the vehicle. Establishing all the circumstances of the incident is underway.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry confirmed information that a minibus carrying Ukrainian citizens overturned in Poland on April 16.
