UK’s 14 Challenger-2 main battle tanks will arrive to the frontlines in Ukraine by summer, UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said during a speech in the House of Commons on Jan. 30.
“It’ll be this side of the summer, or May – it’ll be probably towards Easter time,” The Guardian quotes Wallace.
He added that divulging detailed timeline of the training of Ukrainian tank crews in the UK would jeopardize the program’s security.
According to the secretary, training would begin with instruction on the operation of individual vehicles before progressing to how to fight in formation.
On Jan. 16, the UK became the first Western country to announce plans to equip Kyiv with modern tanks, pledging a squadron of 14 Challnger-2 tanks to the war effort.
