The Ukrainian soldiers in the UK for training were visited by UK Defense Minister Ben Wallace as London gears up support for Ukraine’s army in the fight against Russia, a UK government website reported on July 9.

About 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers and 1,050 British troops will be involved in the training program in the coming months, with exercises being held at military training grounds in the northeastern, southwestern and southeastern regions. Each course will last several weeks and will be conducted by units of the 11th Security Assistance Brigade.

“Using the world-class expertise of the British Army, we will help Ukraine to rebuild its forces and scale-up its resistance as they defend their country’s sovereignty and their right to choose their own future,” Wallace said.

The Ukrainian military will take courses based on the basic military training of the UK. It includes training in the laws of armed conflict, weapons handling, first aid on the battlefield, field equipment, and patrol tactics.

The UK has long supported the Ukrainian Armed Forces as part of the ORBITAL training operation: 22,000 Ukrainians were trained in 2015-2022.

During a visit to Kyiv, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a separate training program for Ukrainian military personnel, under which up to 10,000 soldiers will be trained every 120 days.
