Ka-52 Alligators are military helicopters used by the Russian army for air-to-surface combat. Several have been shot down in Kharkiv Oblast in recent weeks.

During early stage of the war, the Ukrainian army destroyed several Alligator helicopters near Kyiv, where they were deployed to put pressure on the city’s defenders.

According to media reports, the Russian army possessed at least 140 Alligator helicopters as of the end of 2020.

So far, the Russians are reported to have lost at least 17 Ka-52 helicopters in Ukraine. These are usually piloted by a pair of pilots, who are either killed or captured when the helicopter’s crash.
