Two months into the Russian war against Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force maintains control over the majority of Ukraine’s airspace, UK Defense Ministry said in its daily intelligence assessment on April 27.

According to MoD, Russia has failed to destroy Ukraine’s air power and suppress the country’s AA defenses. Kyiv’s air assets continue to put Russian air power at risk.

The ministry said that Russian air force is currently concentrated over eastern and southern Ukraine, supporting Moscow’s attempted ground offensives in those areas.

The Kremlin’s reach into Ukrainian northern and western skies is extremely limited: the only option available are cruise missiles strikes. These are used in attempts to disrupt Ukraine’s logistics across the country.

“The majority of Russian air strikes in Mariupol are likely being conducted using unguided free-falling bombs,” the ministry’s message reads.

“These weapons reduce Russia’s ability to effectively discriminate when conducting strikes, increasing the risk of civilian casualties.”
