Ukraine’s 57th Mechanized Infantry Brigade has completely demolished an armed grouping belonging to Russian private military company (PMC) Wagner Group, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a Facebook post on July 19.
Some of the Wagner mercenaries were wearing patches with the slogan “Death is our trade, and business is good.”
“This bloody business of enemy mercenaries has imploded today,” the message said.
“Once again, we remind unwanted guests they will find only death in Ukraine. Those seeking to make easy money can only hope to become one with Ukraine’s fertile soil.”
UK military intelligence earlier reported that the Wagner Group had sustained major losses in the war, and was seeking to bolster its ranks by lowering recruitment requirements. Moscow has used the mercenary group to fill gaps in its waning forces in Ukraine.
Wagner mercenaries reportedly took part in capturing the settlements of Popasna and Lysychansk in Luhansk Oblast.
