Ukrainian commanders removed after troops face starvation near Kupyansk

Two top Ukrainian commanders were dismissed after frontline troops near Kupyansk were left starving, AFU General Staff announced on April 24.
The commander of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade was removed from his post, and the commander of the 10th Army Corps was dismissed and demoted.
Russian strikes on crossings over the Oskil River complicated logistical support for Defense Forces units in the Kupyansk area, which are now supplied using watercraft and heavy UAVs, the statement read.
At the same time, the 14th Brigade's command concealed the true state of affairs in the sector, positions were lost, and a series of miscalculations occurred regarding the delivery of food to one of the positions, the report noted.
A comprehensive Ground Forces commission launched an investigation into the previous command's actions, and corresponding management decisions will be made based on its results, with materials handed over to law enforcement agencies.
Col. Taras Maksimov was appointed the new commander of the 14th Brigade, while Brig. Gen. Artem Bohomolov was put in charge of the 10th Army Corps.
"The new command of the brigade and corps is taking all possible measures to normalize the situation and establish provisions for servicemen at combat positions," the General Staff's statement read.
Another cargo load of food has been delivered to the 14th Brigade's positions, the Armed Forces added. Under favorable conditions, the soldiers will be immediately evacuated, the statement read.
Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi also instructed Joint Forces Grouping Commander Mykhailo Drapatyi to inspect the comprehensive provisioning of the military personnel carrying out tasks on the front lines.
A Threads user published photos of emaciated soldiers from the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade on April 23, who, according to her, were left at their positions without food and water, causing them to lose consciousness.
The situation remains under the control of the new brigade commander, Taras Maksymov, who is trying to solve the problem, the 14th Brigade's communications department stated.
Defense Ministry stated that "these situations are totally unappropiate," but the brigade and corps command are "in touch with the relatives" of the military personnel.
