Ukrainian defenders have no intention of retreating from the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Feb. 3.

“No one will surrender Bakhmut,” he said at a press conference following the 24th EU-Ukraine Summit in Kyiv.

“We’ll fight as long as we can. We consider Bakhmut to be our fortress, we consider our heroes who died there to be heroes.”

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine will not only hold Bakhmut, but will also start liberating Donbas if the delivery of necessary weapons is accelerated.

“We have the specifics of what we need, we’re grateful to the countries that are with us on this path,” the president added.

Bakhmut remains one of the hottest spots on the front. Russian troops are continuing their attempts to capture it, while suffering extreme losses.
