Ukraine needs “enough weapons” to defeat Russia, not imposed peace initiatives, National Security and Defence Council head Oleksiy Danilov argued in a Facebook post on April 23.
"When the goal of the Russian aggressor remains unchanged — the destruction of Ukraine — the initiatives for a peaceful settlement that have been voiced recently are nothing more than pro-Russian peacekeeping," Danilov wrote on Facebook on April 23.
"Stop bringing us to the negotiating table all the time and give us enough weapons. Weapons are the best mediator and the only argument for communication that Russia understands.”
U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson, Vedant Patel, said on April 21 that any peace negotiations on the Russian invasion in Ukraine should be carried out only on Ukraine’s terms.
In contrast, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto commented on April 22 that China could act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
Commenting on Crosetto’s words, Ukrainain presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak stated that giving up any part of the Ukrainian territory to Russia would mean death for Ukrainians trapped in occupied territory.
