Ukraine now 8th worldwide by emigration
Ukraine is the 8th most-emigrated-from nation globally, the Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Ombudsperson’s office reported on Facebook on Dec. 18. This year alone, 600,000 Ukrainians left the country to live and work elsewhere.
Due to globalization, surging migration has become a worldwide trend in the past several decades:
“Every 35th person lives, works, or studies in a foreign country today, with at least 300 million total migrants globally,” the Ombudsman’s office reported.
The first ten months of 2021 saw more than 600,000 citizens leave Ukraine – the highest number of annual migrants in 11 years, according the privately-run statistics aggregator Opendatabot.
United Nations data suggest that around 3.5 percent of global population are migrants, most of whom hail from India, Mexico and China.
Meanwhile, the following ten countries take in the majority of the world’s immigrants: the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, France, Canada, Australia and Italy.
