Ukraine is intensively preparing for possible “surprises” from Russia on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion, Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat said on Ukrainian national television on Feb. 24.
He said Ukrainians are urged not to ignore air raid alerts, and to stay safe.
“A day that has become symbolic for everyone has just begun,” he said.
“We’re waiting for provocations. There is a threat that the enemy may want to arrange certain ‘surprises’ for us on this day.”
Ihnat emphasized it does not matter for the Ukrainian Air Force what the date is, as they are always on alert.
“Control points, command and mobile brigades, all air defense forces are on alert around the clock,” the official said.
“We see that the enemy can strike unpredictably, as happened at night with the Kalibr missiles. Everyone is used to the standard strikes — Shahed drones at night, missiles in the morning. Maybe they’ll change something in the strategy of launching strikes.”
Ihnat added there is no need to wait for strikes. According to him, the Russians see that Ukraine has prepared, so they can attack on another day.
Earlier, the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, said that Russia plans to launch a missile strike on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but it will be small.
