Ukraine’s army halted and repulsed attempted Russian advances towards six settlements in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a Facebook post on Sept. 25 – the 214 th day of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Russian forces remain focused on attempts to seize the rest of Donetsk Oblast and halt Ukrainian counteroffensives in the south and east of the country.
Attempted Russian advances towards Soledar, Vyiimka, Kurdyumivka, Zaytseve, Novomykhailivka, and Pervomayske in Donetsk Oblast were all unsuccessful.
The Ukrainian Air Force carried out 26 sorties, striking concentrations of enemy troops and air defense systems.
Ukraine’s rocket artillery delivered a series of blows to Russian command-and-control centers, air defenses, artillery batteries, and ammunition depots. Confirmed reports of enemy losses are still coming in.
Russia had declared one of war goals to be the seizure of Ukraine’s Donbas region – made up of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
However, seven months into its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has failed to take all of Luhansk Oblast, and has been losing ground there since a recent Ukrainian counter-offensive.
Meanwhile, Russian attempts to advance in Donetsk Oblast have been largely unsuccessful, and Ukraine is also advancing in some parts of that oblast.
In the south, Ukraine is continuing a slow but steady advance against Russian troops in the western part of Kherson Oblast, where a large group of Russian troops has been isolated, with their supply routes across the Dnipro River severely disrupted.
According to a recent report in the New York Times, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has personally taken command of the war in Ukraine, and has rejected Russian army appeals to be allowed to withdraw their forces back across the Dnipro to more defensible positions.
Putin appears determined to maintain control of the city of Kherson, located on the west bank od the Dnipro, as it is the only Ukrainian regional center that his invasion force has managed to capture in seven months of full-scale war. Its loss would be a severe blow to his regime.
