Ukraine’s accession to EU, NATO guarantees Europe’s security for decades, says FM Kuleba

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO will complete the reshaping of the global security architecture and guarantee the security of the European continent for decades, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on March 28.
Speaking online as an honorary guest of a US-Adriatic Charter ministerial event, Kuleba said that the future of Euro-Atlantic security is determined on the battlefield in Ukraine, and today Ukraine is a donor of security for the entire Euro-Atlantic community.
“The reality is that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is in the interests of both our country and the Alliance itself,” he said.
“Ukraine’s strength, resilience, and courage will make a significant contribution to collective security, as will a large, battle-hardened, and interoperable Ukrainian Army.”
Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO would complete the reformation of the global security architecture and “guarantee the security of the European continent for decades to come,” he said.
EU leaders granted Ukraine and Moldova candidate status on June 23, 2022. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the granting of this status a historic moment in the relationship between Ukraine and the European Union.
The European Council invited the European Commission to report on the candidate countries’ implementation of membership conditions and promised to decide on further steps “as soon as all these conditions are fully met.”
In early December, the Minister for Climate and Europe at the German Foreign Office, Anne Lührmann, said Ukraine had made significant progress in implementing the reforms needed to become an EU member, so accession talks could start shortly.
He also predicted that Ukraine would join NATO after the war with Russia ends.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has said that Ukraine has already become a “de facto” member of the alliance.
