Ukraine will receive 120-140 modern Western tanks in the first wave of deliveries, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said at a briefing on Jan. 31.
According to him, the “tank coalition” of countries supplying main battle tanks to Ukraine already has 12 member countries.
The diplomat said that Ukraine will receive Leopard 2, Challenger 2, M1 Abrams tanks and is also expecting France to deliver its Leclerc tanks.
"It is too early to name all the coalition countries and their practical contributions, as some of them still have to make formal decisions in accordance with their internal procedures," the Foreign Minister said.
“I can only note that in the first wave of contributions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive 120 to 140 units of modern Western tanks.”
Kuleba added that Kyiv continues to work on expanding the tank coalition, as well as on increasing the contributions from the already announced participants.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian defenders need 300-500 tanks to launch an offensive. According to Ukraine's Ambassador to France Vadym Omelchenko, together, all Western countries have promised Ukraine 321 heavy tanks.
