Ukraine could liberate Donetsk by year-end, military expert and Reserve Colonel of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Roman Svitan said in an interview with Radio NV on March 9.

“We can do it this year already, by the end of the year, by Christmas, by Dec. 25,” he said.

“It will happen after launching an offensive from Svatove on Luhansk, which will separate Donetsk Oblast from Russia. The offensive will move forward at the end of summer or in fall," Svitan predicted.

However, Svitan believes that Crimea should be the priority.

“The main fight will be in Crimea. I mean the fight that will put final nail in the coffin of Russia,” he said.

“All Russian (forces) must leave Crimea; either they will leave the peninsula, or they will be eliminated. After that we can talk about bringing the operation to an end. However, the issue of Donbas will remain. It's much harder to clear the area of Donbas than Crimea.”

“But it's also necessary.”

Svitan has previously outlined in detail how the Ukrainian army will enter Crimea and which weapons they should use to destroy the Kerch Bridge connecting the Russian-occupied Ukrainian peninsula to the Russian mainland.
