The Ukrainian military is currently establishing the identity of the deceased Ukrainian soldier whose beheading by Russian troops was recorded on video and shared online, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said at a press briefing on April 13.

According to her, all such cases and videos that were made public are being investigated jointly by all Ukrainian law enforcement agencies with relevant technical capabilities and expertise.

"We are currently working to identify all those involved…, in order to prevent the situation when people assume one person was killed and then it turns out that it was someone else," Malyar said.

“We urge to refrain from making public assumptions until experts determine who the victim was.”

On April 11, a video was posted on Russian Telegram channels, showing Russian troops executing a Ukrainian soldier by decapitating him with a knife. Ukraine’s SBU security service launched is investigating the incident.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on world leaders to respond to this latest Russian atrocity. World leaders, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell, and Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović-Burić, have all acknowledged they were horrified by the video and condemned the apparent barbaric act.
