In another ironic event in Russia’s war on Ukraine, a supposedly sophisticated Russian counter-battery radar, system designed to detect the trajectories of incoming shells and adjust artillery fire for the invaders has been destroyed – by Ukrainian artillery.
The Ukrainian military destroyed the Russian Zoopark-1 counter-artillery radar system in Zaporizhzhya Oblast with its own highly accurate artillery strike, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported on the Telegram messenger on Aug. 20.
In addition to this system, Ukrainian troops also destroyed four automobiles and armored vehicles.
The Ukrainian intelligence added that “an accurate firepower at certain coordinates completely disabled the equipment that allows adjusting enemy artillery fire.”
Russia’s Zoopark-1 intelligence radar system is intended for reconnaissance of enemy fire positions (multiple launch rocket systems, artillery and mortar positions, tactical missile launchers and air defense systems, etc.), as well as calculating projectile and missile trajectories, adjusting the fire of friendly firepower, and monitoring the airspace over UAVs.
