The Ukrainian Armed Forces are moving forward hundreds of meters in the southern and east-southern directions every day, guard spokesman Colonel Mykola Urshalovych said during a briefing on July 20.
Despite extremely harsh conditions including mined areas and enemy fire, Ukrainian assault units armed with tanks and artillery continue to move steadily onwards, he said.
"Our soldiers and officers are literally gnawing through the enemy's defenses. Every day we advance by several hundred meters," Urshalovych said.
On July 19, Major Valeriy Shershen, spokesman for the Ukrainian Tavria Task Force, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had advanced more than a kilometer along the front line in the direction of Melitopol.
On July 16, spokeswoman for the Ukrainian military's Southern Operational Command, Natalia Humeniuk, said that despite facing great difficulties, Ukrainian defenders were making progress in the Zaporizhzhia area.
