Armed Forces search teams have discovered nearly 500 bodies of missing Ukrainian soldiers since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in Feb. 2022, said Colonel Volodymyr Lyamzin, head of the General Staff’s Central Department of Civil-Military Cooperation, Ukrinform reported on April 22.
As of April 2023, approximately 7,000 military personnel are still considered missing, he added.
“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion until April 20 of this year, a little less than half of the bodies of our fallen defenders were found by our military search teams. A little over half of the bodies of the invaders were collected and delivered to designated storage locations,” he said.
According to Lyamzin, search teams have worked in nearly 600 locations.
He clarified that Ukrainian Armed Forces search teams carry out work in places where staff of the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons cannot reach.
