Video of day

Russia attacked Ukraine on Feb. 24. Nov. 4 is the 259th day of the full-scale invasion. The Russian invasion forces initially tried to attack from the north, east and south, attacking civilian areas with artillery and aircraft. Russia continues to strike civilian objects across Ukraine.

The Kremlin has changed the goals of the war several times already.

Only one oblast center, Kherson, has been occupied by the invaders, along with parts of Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Luhansk, Donetsk, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv Oblasts.

The Ukrainian army is continuing its counter-offensive in the east and south of Ukraine, hitting Russian ammunition depots and personnel. Almost all of Kharkiv Oblast has been liberated.

On Sept. 21 Russian dictator Vladimir Putin declared a "partial mobilization" in Russia, prompting hundreds of thousands of young Russian men to flee the country.

On Sept. 30, Russia falsely claimed it had annexed four Ukrainian oblasts even as successful Ukrainian counter-offensives were ongoing. The Kremlin arranged sham "accession referendums" in Ukrainian territory, and then published absurd, fraudulent results for them in an attempt to legitimize its occupation of Ukrainian territory.
