Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Chinese counterpart, Qin Gang, discussed the significance of the principle of territorial integrity and the “peace formula” offered by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a phone call on March 16.
“During my call with China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang today, we discussed the significance of the principle of territorial integrity,” Kuleba tweeted.
“I underscored the importance of President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula for ending the aggression and restoring just peace in Ukraine.”
At the same time, Qin told Kuleba that China is concerned about an escalation of Russia’s war in Ukraine and said Beijing hopes that Moscow and Kyiv will hold peace talks, reported Reuters.
“China hopes that all parties will remain calm, rational, and restrained, and (will) resume peace talks as soon as possible,” Qin said.
On Feb. 24, Zelenskyy announced his intention to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, to discuss issues related to the Russian invasion and bilateral trade relations.
Recent media reports suggest that Xi Jinping plans to have his first conversation with Zelenskyy since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The talks are expected to take place after the Chinese leader’s visit to Moscow next week.
