Filmmaker, writer Oleh Sentsov talks of liberated Ukrainian land near Robotyne
Ukrainian director, writer, and Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Oleh Sentsov posted a new update on his Facebook page on Sept. 28, sharing his impressions of his journey from the frontlines to the rear.
Sentsov recounted how he and his group withdrew from the frontlines into the rear. He shared his thoughts on a 10-kilometer journey, reflecting on how much Ukrainian territory they were able to free during this counter-offensive.
"As I walked, I realized that for the first time, I covered the entire route with land liberated during this counter-offensive on foot.”
“All these positions, intersections, and positions have their names. Each of them witnessed fierce battles, nothing was given for free. The remains of equipment, craters, scorched earth, overturned trenches, branches instead of trees. Every point on the map, in addition to its name, has a list of the names of friends who gave their lives for it to become ours.”
“We spent almost four months moving forward on this path, but you can walk it back in a few hours. However, this distance is not measured in kilometers; this distance is measured in human lives," he wrote.
He also posted a photo he took along this journey. In the picture, you can see damaged military equipment, fragments of something, and a gap in the road.
In early September, Sentsov suffered another injury during the fighting for Robotyne, in the south of the salient Ukrainian forces have pushed into Russian lines.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
