Ukraine’s Defense Forces have destroyed over 650 Russian cruise missiles and 610 drones since Sept. 11, 2022, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, told Ukrainian defense news outlet ArmyInform on Feb.25.
Although the Air Force has received air defense systems such as NASAMS, IRIS-T, Crotale, and Gepard anti-aircraft guns from Western partners, Oleshchuk said that more technologically advanced weapons are needed. The Air Force is currently awaiting the arrival of Patriot and SAMP/T-MAMBA systems, but this assistance is still insufficient.
"We need more technologically advanced weapons that will help us quickly restore order in the sky and free it from aerial terrorists," Oleshchuk said.
"Our allies know exactly what is needed by Ukraine, particularly the Air Force. These are modern multi-purpose aircraft and medium- and long-range anti-aircraft missile systems."
