The Armed Forces of Ukraine are slowly advancing towards Svatove and Kreminna in Luhansk Oblast, regional governor Serhiy Hayday said in a Telegram post on Oct. 27.

Hayday said that Russian troops tried to assault Bilohorivka, but all their attacks were repulsed, while Ukrainian forces are gradually advancing towards Svatove and Kreminna.

Residents of liberated towns in Luhansk Oblast remain under repeated Russian artillery attacks, which seem to be targeting residential areas, according to the governor.

“Among the 17 people remaining in Bilohorivka, there was an elderly man and a daughter who looked after him – it was they who were killed by a Russian shell the other day,” said Hayday.

He added that “de jure, the city of Popasna no longer exists in the so-called ‘LPR,” suggesting Russian militants are preparing to withdraw from Popasna.

In an interview with NV Radio on Oct. 22, Hayday said that Svatove and surrounding areas represent the key to liberating northern Luhansk Oblast from Russian occupation.
