Ukrainian journalist Oleksandr Bondarenko killed in battle

Ukrainian journalist
and communications expert, Oleksandr Bondarenko, has been killed in action while
serving with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Union of Journalists
said in a message on its website on April 27.
Bondarenko was an accomplished journalist and worked with to the communications consultancy firm RMA.
Known for his determination, he volunteered to defend his country on the first day of the Russian invasion. RMA colleague Vasil Samokhvalov paid tribute to Bondarenko on Facebook, describing him as “our great mind, our sense of humor.”
Bondarenko worked as a radio host at an FM radio station in Luhansk, as well as for BBC Ukraine and TRK Ukraine before pivoting to communications. He graduated as a linguist from the University of Luhansk.
Fellow journalist Maxim Savanevskiy shared his condolences on social media, describing Bondarenko as “a very bright and sincere person with a smile that made every meeting wonderful.”
“His uncompromising nature was captivating, and his refined sense of humor – hilarious. Sasha was loved by all. He was a gift to Luhansk, and the war has taken him away. Thank you for everything,” Savanevskiy said in a Facebook post.
According to Ukrainian media outlet Babael, in 2021 Bondarenko was considered for the position of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s press secretary.
