Ukrainian army units continue to defend Severodonetsk, and are strengthening the defenses of the nearby town of Lysychansk ahead of a possible Russian attack, Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, said on Ukrainian national television on June 10.
“As of today, there are no hostile actions taking place,” Motuzyankyk said. “Regarding the “road of life” (the Lysychansk-Bakhmut highway - ed.), unfortunately, it’s exposed to enemy fire and isn’t absolutely safe. But I want to emphasize that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are looking for all possible ways to strengthen our units.”
According to Motuzyanyk, the Russian army has not abandoned its attempts to make a crossing of the Seversky Donets River, despite the fact that this is a dangerous tactical operation.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in many ways, the fate of Donbas is now being decided in the battle for Severodonetsk.
The battle for the city is among the most difficult ones of the entire war, he said.
