Ukrainian military recaptures Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant, station working again
In the morning of February 26, the Ukrainian military recaptured Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant in the north of Kyiv. Overnight Russian army was trying to take control over the station and the dam.
Ukraine's air defense system at 0350 destroyed a Russian missile that was heading to the damn of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Ministry reported in Telegram messenger.
As of now the station is working again. The Ukrainian military also controls a nearby dam.
"During the fierce fighting that night, the Ukrainian armed forces recaptured the Kyiv HPP from the Russian occupiers. The station is completely under control. The technical staff left the storage facilities and started working, "wrote the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko.
According to the President's Office, fierce fighting took place near the hydroelectric power station at night, and the Russian army used helicopters. Sabotage and reconnaissance groups also tried to break into the facility. After the fighting the Russian military retreated.
Also on the night of Feb. 26, the Russian military tried to capture a Thermal Power Plant in Kyiv’s Troyeschina, left bank. But without success so far.
Currently the left bank of Kyiv is under heavy shelling.
