Ukraine’s army has taken delivery of a first batch of new Turkish Kirpi armored personnel carriers, a Ukrainian military unit said in a post on their Facebook page on Aug 9.

The unit also posted a video showing about a dozen of the new armored personnel carriers. It said in its post that it expected Turkey would deliver another batch of 150 of the vehicles to Ukraine.

“Our soldiers are supported by foreign partners,” says a caption in the video. “The whole world wants Ukraine to defeat its worst enemy. New Turkish Kirpi armored personnel carriers have been handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

The Kirpi armored personnel carrier is manufactured by the Turkish company BMC. The armored body of the vehicle provides protection against armor-piercing shells and fragments of artillery shells.

The Kirpi is equipped with seat dampers, a GPS system, a rear view camera and an automatic fire extinguishing system. It has five small arms embrasures and four bulletproof windows on each side of the passenger compartment.

The vehicle can be armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun and is also available with remote controlled weapon stations.
