Ukrainian military units defending the towns of Bakhmut and Soledar in Donetsk Oblast will be provided with ammunition and everything they need promptly and continuously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a Telegram messenger post on Jan. 12.

“I held a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief,” the president said.

“The situation on the main directions of the front was discussed. Particular attention was paid to the battles in Bakhmut and Soledar. I emphasize that the units defending these cities have to be provided with ammunition and everything they need promptly and without any interruption.”

Zelenskyy added that the participants of the meeting had discussed the reinforcement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with equipment and weapons coming from partners.

In the first weeks of 2023, Russia devoted maximum efforts to trying to capture Soledar, but Ukrainian defenders continue to defend the settlement.

Despite the extreme pressure of enemy attacks and statements of Russian propaganda, the Ukrainian command denied rumours that the Russians had captured Soledar.

The Ukrainian military’s General Staff reported that the enemy is trying to take control of Soledar and supply routes for Ukrainian units, but is suffering heavy losses.
