The Armed Forces of Ukraine have repelled Russian invading troops’ attempt to completely seize the important section of the Lysychansk-Bakhmut highway in Luhansk Oblast, the regional governor Serhiy Hayday said in a Telegram post on July 16.

"The Russians have been aiming to seize a strategically important highway for them for more than two months, but they are still unable to establish control over several kilometers of this road," he said.

According to Hayday, the Ukrainian defenders have successfully stopped these enemy attempts with heavy fire.

The governor also said that the invaders continue to launch artillery strikes with subsequent assault attempts, as well as rocket and air strikes.

"They promised 'liberation,' but they themselves are killing lives in Luhansk Oblast," Hayday said.

"They're destroying houses and infrastructure, killing people. And those who survived, but lost everything, have no choice but to start from scratch. Only far from home."

"The enemy launched four missile strikes, three artillery, and five sustained mortar attacks at the settlements and around them on July 15," he said, posting a photo of the consequences of such attacks.

Earlier on July 15, Hayday said that the Russian invaders could not enter the administrative borders of Luhansk Oblast.

"A small part of the territory of Luhansk Oblast is still resisting, so the invading forces cannot enter the administrative borders of the region," he said.
