Petition to NATO to close skies over Ukraine gains 1 million signatures
A petition registered in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, calling on NATO countries to completely close the skies over Ukraine to stop Russian airstrikes, has gained one million signatures, the Verkhovna Rada reported via Telegram channel on March 2.
The petition will now be submitted to NATO for consideration.
Ukrainian politicians and Ukrainian citizens have called on the United States and NATO to help close the skies over Ukraine and protect the country from air raids since the first day of the Russian war against Ukraine, or Feb. 24.
Russia has used its superior airfighting capability to strike targets all over Ukraine, including via cruise missiles and bombing runs. As a result, many civilian structures have been impacted and some cities, including the key port city of Mariupol, have been unable to set up humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of women, children, wounded, and the elderly.
