There is a significant shortage of electricity in the power system as of Dec. 24, with the most difficult situation being seen in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and its surrounding oblast, Ukraine’s power grid operator Ukrenergo said in a post on Telegram on Dec. 24.

“Therefore, consumption limits have been set for all oblasts, and if they are exceeded it leads to the activation of emergency restrictions,” the message reads.

Ukrenergo said that the most difficult situation was observed in Kyiv and its surrounding oblast, due to the consequences of the Dec. 19 drone attack, as well as in the east and south, where Russia launched new artillery strikes on front-line areas, and further damage was done to energy infrastructure facilities.

The company said that wherever possible, repair work was ongoing around the clock.
