Unvaccinated in Ukraine 10 times more likely to die from COVID-19, says Ukrainian Health Minister
Unvaccinated people in Ukraine are 10 times more likely to die of COVID-19 than their fully-vaccinated counterparts, Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Liashko wrote in a social media post on Jan. 13.
Liashko added as many as 95 percent of the people who died from COVID-19 in Ukraine over the autumn of 2021 were unvaccinated.
According to reports by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, a staggering 90 percent of Ukrainians admitted to hospital with COVID-19 complications were not vaccinated.
Liashko explained that unvaccinated people were also almost five times more likely to be admitted to hospital.
The highest mortality rates were reported among people over 60. At the moment, almost 40 percent of over 60s in Ukraine have received at least one vaccination dose.
Liashko urged Ukrainians to receive a COVID-19 vaccination in order to save their own lives and those of the people around them.
According to the research data recently released by Kyiv School of Economics, a new surge in COVID-19 cases in Ukraine could happen as early as this month.
