Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 2,500-3,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed and about 10,000 were wounded, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said in an interview with CNN.

Speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper on April 15, Zelensky also noted that Russia had lost 19,000 to 20,000 troops.

Zelensky added that the number of killed and wounded among the Ukrainian civilian population was more difficult to estimate.

“It is very difficult to talk about civilians, since south of our country, where the towns and cities are blocked -- Kherson, Berdyansk, Mariupol further east, and the area to the east of where Volnovakha is -- we just don't know how many people have died in that area that is blocked," the Ukrainian head of state said.

Asked about a video released this week showing death and devastation in Ukraine due to the war, including a Ukrainian woman who found her son's body in a well, Zelensky said: "It's a great pain for me."

"I can't watch it as a father, only because all you want after this is revenge and to kill," he said. "I have to watch as the president of the state where a lot of people have died and lost their loved ones, and there are millions of people who want to live," the Ukrainian leader said.

He added that "all of us (Ukrainians) want to fight, but we all have to do our best for this war not to be endless."

"The longer it is, the more we will lose," he said.

Commenting on the announcement by the Kremlin that the Russian cruiser Moskva had sunk in the Black Sea, Zelensky did not answer directly whether the Ukrainian military had been involved, but said that the fewer weapons and equipment Russia has, the better for Ukraine.

Earlier, on April 14, the Ukrainian parliament declared the actions of Russia and its army as genocide of the Ukrainian people and called on the international community to follow suit. The Russians are blocking Ukrainian settlements and destroying civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, kindergartens and churches, preventing the evacuation of civilians and delivery of humanitarian supplies, and depriving people of access to basic needs.

In the temporarily occupied territories, the invaders are committing atrocities, killing, kidnapping, torturing, and raping civilians.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of April 15, the occupiers have lost 20,000 personnel since the start of the invasion, as well as:

Tanks – 756
