The United States is working on Ukraine’s proposal to establish a special international tribunal that would investigate Russian war crimes, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said during a briefing on Dec. 14.
“As for the UN tribunal – we continue to examine the proposal and are working on it,” Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform quotes Kirby.
Kirby added that the United States is decidedly in favor of holding Moscow accountable for its apparent crimes in Ukraine.
“Absolutely, they (the Russians) must be held responsible,” Kirby said.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba earlier said that a special tribunal would effectively be the only viable option for brining Russian military and political leadership to justice for the crimes of aggression against Ukraine.
On Oct. 7, the Ukrainian parliament called on the international community to establish a special tribunal to investigate Russian aggression against Ukraine.
