The United States is sending M113 armored personnel carriers (APCs) to Ukraine, the U.S. Department of Defense tweeted on April 30, as part of a wide-ranging U.S. effort to support Ukraine.
The M113 series was widely used in the Vietnam war, and in the modern U.S. arsenal, has been widely superseded by M2 and M3 Bradley’s, though it still sees use in various roles. M113 armor is rated for 7.62mm and shell splinter protection, and can mount a .50 caliber machine gun, an automatic grenade launcher, or a variety of cannon and anti-tank missile systems.
On Apr. 28, U.S. President Joe Biden gave a speech in support of Ukraine and asked Congress for an additional funding of $33 billion to support Ukraine.
Over $20 billion will be spent directly on weapons, ammunition and other military assistance, as well as $8.5 billion in economic assistance and $3 billion in humanitarian aid.
