US Treasury Secretary visits Kyiv

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited Kyiv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and PM Denys Shmyhal, the President's Office said in a message on its website on Feb. 27.
According to the press service of Ukraine’s Finance Ministry, Ukraine received a tranche of $1.25 billion from the United States.
Zelenskyy thanked the United States for its support and noted Washington’s decision to allocate $9.9 billion in direct budget assistance to Ukraine in 2023.
The president and secretary Yellen also discussed cooperation with the IMF and the restoration of Ukrainian infrastructure destroyed by Russian invaders. Zelenskyy stressed the necessity to create mechanisms that will allow the seized Russian assets to be used for post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
PM Shmyhal reported via Telegram that and Yellen discussed financial support for Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, war risk insurance, and confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
“Our American partners have pledged to provide Ukraine with more than $10 billion in budget support by September,” he wrote.
“In addition, the United States allocated $1.5 billion for a quick recovery, and another $1.1 billion for the energy sectors of Ukraine and Moldova.”
Yellen tweeted that she arrived in Kyiv "to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to Ukraine, discuss ways we can continue our support – including through economic assistance – and pay tribute to the bravery of the Ukrainian people a year after Russia's unprovoked invasion.”
