The situation in the Ukrainian town of Vasylkiv to the south of the capital city of Kyiv is calm thanks to its air defenses, Vasylkiv Mayor Natalia Balasynovych said on Facebook on April 18.
"There is nothing sacred for the Russian invaders, and even the beginning of Passion Week didn't stop these barbarians," she said.
"But everything is fine thanks to our air defenses. Now you can hear explosions, some things are detonating."
According to Balasynovych, “everything is under control” in the town now.
In the early weeks of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine an airbase near Vasylkiv was attacked by missiles, and a fuel depot set ablaze, spreading noxious fumes across the town.
