Vatican ready to mediate between Ukraine and Russia, media report

The Vatican is ready to act as a mediator in the case of there being negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, Italian newspaper La Stampa wrote on Nov. 8.
The Vatican proposes to involve other parties in the negotiations, in particular the United States and the European Union.
The Vatican also offers its territory as a neutral place for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Pope Francis addressed Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a sermon on Oct. 2.
The pontiff called on Putin to “stop the spiral of violence and death” in Ukraine, and asked Zelenskyy to be open to “serious proposals for peace.”
French President Emmanuel Macron called on Pope Francis at the end of October, asking him to call dictator Vladimir Putin, head of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill and U.S. President Joe Biden “to advance the peace process in Ukraine.”
