The Wagner Group mercenary company has lost practically all influence on the course of fighting in Ukraine due to high losses and lack of reinforcements, spokesperson of the Chervona Kalyna National Guard Brigade Mykola Koval said on Ukrainian national television on April 30.
“There is nowhere for them to get people from anymore. They have really suffered significant losses,” Koval said.
“I just see that all the fields are scattered with (the bodies of) their ‘Wagnerites’ (mercenaries), and no one is coming to get them. Nobody wants to fight anymore,” he said.
Previously, Yevgeny Prigozhin, an infamous warlord and leader of Russia’s Wagner mercenary company, complained that Wagner would soon disappear, as “there are not many Wagner fighters left.”
Prigozhin also said it was possible that his Wagner mercenaries might withdraw from Bakhmut.
Ukraine still holds the western part of the war-torn Donetsk Oblast front-line town after over nine months of bitter fighting.
