Russian private military company Wagner Group requests reinforcements from the Russian Armed Forces, as Ukraine is seemingly poised for a counterattack at Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, Wagner CEI Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a Telegram post on March 20.
"According to available information, in late March – early April, the enemy (Ukraine) plans to launch a large-scale offensive and deliver cut-off strikes in order to isolate Wagner PMC units from the main units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," said Prigozhin, addressing Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
“I request you take necessary steps to prevent Wagner PMC getting cut off from the bulk of the Russian military, as that would reflect negatively on the Special Military operation.”
Ensnared in a months-long, costly attack on Bakhmut, the Wagner Group loses 500-800 fighters every day – according to Ukrainian military officials.
On March 17, BBC Russian Service reported on a cemetery in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region, where at least 67 Wagner mercenaries were recently buried, including some recruited prisoners.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, Russia has lost more than 165,000 troops in the war against Ukraine.
