A military aircraft crashed deep inside Russia-occupied territory in the Donbas, near Yenakiieve in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian military journalist Denys Kazansky wrote on Telegram on March 3.

"It is deep within the occupied area, so it is highly likely that Russians downed it themselves as they are all thumbs with their air defence," he wrote.

It is believed that the pilots managed to escape from the Su-34 aircraft before it was downed, according to reports on social media.

The self-proclaimed "mayor" of Yenakiieve confirmed the crash of the warplane, instructing residents in the area "to go to a shelter."
