China risks damaging its trade and technology relationships with other countries if it supplies weapons to Russia for its war against Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on March 18.

“Why help Russia, which is experiencing the collapse of its civilization?”, he asked.

"Current Russia will soon cease to exist. It would be an irreversible investment, and China is too pragmatic to make such mistakes," said Podolyak.

He also pointed out that Chinese law prohibits the transfer of weapons to a state at war.

“Today, it makes no sense to bet on Russia; it is not a promising ally, but a backward country that seeks to compensate for its weaknesses with excessive aggressiveness,”, he said.

Podolyak suggested that China take advantage of the position of a weakened and discredited Russia.

"Let's not forget that stable international trade and access to technological know-how are extremely important for Beijing,” he said.

“It competes with the United States and Europe, but doesn't want direct conflicts and sanctions.

“Russia, on the other hand, can only offer a war that destroys the country.”
